ACTIVITIES
The Pelion
A well-kept secret of the Greeks: the mountainous Pelion peninsula stretches between the Aegean Sea and the calm waters of the Gulf of Volos. In its heart lies a lush mountain range, a hiker’s paradise, where picturesque villages cling to the slopes.
Pelion is crisscrossed by winding, scenic, and truly spectacular roads! In a tranquil atmosphere, the villages are mostly clustered around small harbors, coves, and sandy or pebbly beaches.
The peninsula has maintained a deep connection to its ancestral traditions.
According to Greek mythology, Pelion was the summer residence of the Olympian gods, the land of the Centaurs. Hercules, Achilles, Jason, and Asclepius learned music, virtue, and the art of war alongside the Centaur Chiron.
Just above Villa Paou lies the charming Byzantine monastery of Agios Nikolaos. The monastery is nestled among olive groves. A spring flows from a fountain, filling pools of water.
In August, a cultural festival takes place annually in the monastery’s inner courtyard.
Music festivals throughout the season: Horto Festival | Angelinis–Hadjinikou Cultural Foundation.
Argalasti
Three kilometers away, Argalasti is a village built in a strategic location overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Gulf of Volos. It is particularly lively during the summer.
The village is full of beautiful houses decorated in the style of Southern Pelion, with flower gardens, cobbled streets, historic buildings, charming churches, and small chapels.
All amenities can be found in the village of Argalasti, a 5-minute drive away: mini-markets, bakeries, butchers, and pharmacies, as well as half a dozen traditional tavernas.
The village market for fresh produce takes place every Saturday morning.
Many hikes along ancient stone paths are marked: friendsofthekalderimi.org
Three wineries are located in the village of Argalasti and offer tastings of local wines: patistis-wines.gr – Milea Winery — About us, our philosophy, who we are!
Several scuba diving spots.
We offer a two-person kayak for exploring the coast and its secluded coves.
